Martin Booth in Woodside

Martin Booth Woodside Division Broadland

Labour Party Norfolk County Council Election Candidate for Woodside Division

About Martin Booth

I am delighted to have been selected to fight the Woodside division for Labour next May. I live right on the border of the East part of the division in Sprowston and have strong local connections to Thorpe as my wife of 50 years, Sandra, was born and raised here and several of her relatives still live here. I am a retired Norwich osteopath who worked in the city for 40 years. Between 1989 and 2001 I was Labour county councillor for North Walsham and in that time got a lot of experience in how the council works. My special interests were education and finance and I was vice-chair of the Education Committee, chair of the Audit Committee and chair of the Value for Money Committee amongst other things. I would love to put all my experience to work for the people of Woodside and for the Labour group on the County Council. I am a great believer in keeping in contact with the people I represent. I would try to attend all Town Council meetings to report on the county council and get details of any problems that need dealing with and hold regular surgeries for people to bring their observations or problems. I have an interest in green issues and conservation and would try to make sure that county council policy is as green as possible. I also feel that the Tory county’s destruction of the youth service has been appalling and would look to reversing this. Their decision to sell Holt Hall is a grave mistake. I know the value of Holt Hall as I was chair of it’s first management committee in the 1990’s. I also have an interest in trading standards as I feel more must be done about the scams and fraud that is going on particularly that aimed at older, vulnerable people. In Woodside division I will work to defend Thorpe Wood and to get improvements to our local pavements some of which are in a very poor state. I will be a passionate supporter of the people of Thorpe St Andrew and Sprowston parts of both of which are included in the Woodside division if I have the honour of being elected by you to serve on the council.
