I have lived in Thorpe Hamlet for almost 30 years. I am a freelance graphic designer and used to be a teacher at Thorpe St Andrew School where I was Head of Technology. I am an active member of our community and am a former City Councillor.
I am closely involved with the community in Thorpe Hamlet and I am Chair of the Friends of Kett’s Heights which is a non party-political group concerned with improving the biodiversity and accessibility of this much-loved open space.
My campaign priorities are to get the County Council to address air pollution across the city but especially in the vicinity of our primary schools where the youngest in society are at risk. I want to see measures put in place to improve air quality and education to change people’s awareness and behaviour of this problem.
The closure of our Sure Start Centre by the Tory led County Council was something that I opposed with a long-running campaign. I remain committed to pre-school education and early childhood development. I will be fighting for reinstatement of our Children’s Centre in a purpose-built community space which Thorpe Hamlet so sorely lacks. Our manifesto commits to reinvestment in our Children’s Centres and the restoration of a youth service. If elected as your County Councillor I will be able to confront the dismissive, one-sided approach of the council and police to the problems of street sex work in Thorpe Hamlet to keep everyone in our community safe.
