I’m Jo Thurtle and I’m a local mum and teacher. I live in the area with my partner, two children and our dog, Poppy.
Anyone that knows me would agree that I wear my heart on my sleeve and I am true to my word.
I feel so lucky to have been born and raised here, attending local schools and East Norfolk Sixth Form College, whilst watching our beautiful borough change over time. I am privileged to have been a teacher within the Great Yarmouth borough for the last 22 years. During this time, I’ve nurtured hundreds of bright young minds and made connections with many local families.
I know this area like the back of my hand and I love our community; it’s in my blood.
For the last few years, I have been involved with supporting our local foodbanks, organising community events and campaigning against damaging cuts to vital public funding and services. I’ve grown increasingly angry watching some of our sitting County Councillors vote time and time again to cut public funding whilst increasing their own ‘allowances’. It makes my blood boil and goes against everything I stand for.
I’m incredibly honoured to be standing as your Labour candidate in the Norfolk County Council Elections on May 6th this year. If elected, my overriding priority would be to listen to and stand up for our community. In these uncertain times, it is more important than ever that vital funding reaches the services that we all rely on and that damaging cuts are opposed. Our local businesses need support and our local community and heritage must be preserved.
Are you happy with how things are currently being run? If you think Gorleston deserves better, vote for strong, local, genuine representation on May 6th. Vote Labour, vote for me, Jo Thurtle; I’m on your side.
