I’m Micaela Bartrum and I’m standing to be your Labour councillor for Gaywood South. I’m a 40 year old mum of two kids who both attend school in King’s Lynn. I’ve lived and worked in Lynn my whole life, I love this area and I’m proud to follow my own mum into local politics. She stood as a local councillor 15 years ago and I was brought up knowing the value that a Labour government or council can bring to people’s lives.
I’ve worked in a variety of different jobs and I understand how it can be a struggle to make ends meet. We need to work with our MPs and borough councillors to make a system that is fit for purpose, one that doesn’t penalise people if they’re off sick from work due to Covid. One that means that they can actually pay their rent rather than worry about getting by on just £95 a week.
I care passionately about children’s services and believe our kids need the best start in life they can have. Our Children’s Centres helped provide this, but the Conservative led County Council closed most of them down. I’ll work to make different decisions that don’t impact on the lives of vulnerable people in the way that the decisions taken by the Conservatives have done. Labour candidates like me want to restore the safety net that used to be there to support those in need but which has been eroded by years of underfunding. A vote for me in May would be step towards this. My local roots, knowledge, care and passion for our area makes me best placed to be your local County Councillor. A vote for me will be a vote to be properly represented and have a real voice at Norfolk County Council.
